Stemming an Uptick in Gun Violence

A recent initiative aimed at stemming an uptick in gun violence in St. John the Baptist Parish resulted in almost two dozen firearms taken off the streets as well as several arrests, Sheriff Mike Tregre has announced.

Captain Charles “Chip” Wale III receives Valor Award

Captain Charles “Chip” Wale III was named the 2020 recipient of the Louisiana Sheriffs Association’s Deputy Sheriff Valor Award. Michael Ranatza, executive director of the Louisiana Sheriffs Association, presents the award to Wale.

SWAT & Citizens Academy

SWAT members and Citizens Academy participants participate in a demonstration of a non-electric initiation signal used for an explosive breach. The shock tube is hollow and contains a thin layer of energetic material that allows for the transfer of a signal via shock wave, which is the flash seen.

Firearms Familiarization Class for Women Set
The St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office will present a firearms familiarization class for women on Wednesdays, January 10, February 7 and 28, 2023 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Lloyd B. Johnson Law Enforcement Training Center, 947 Cambridge Drive, in LaPlace.
Each session will cover basic fundamentals of marksmanship, safe handgun handling, and allow participants to fire a semi-auto handgun. No outside firearms or ammunition are permitted for the sessions.

WEATHER CLOSURE ANNOUNCEMENT

The safety of our employees and students is paramount to us. Tomorrow morning inclement weather may cause unsafe road conditions for our buses and employees. Therefore, on Monday, January 8, 2024 all St. John Schools will operate under an early release schedule, and all after school activities are canceled. Please see the 3-hour early release schedule below. In addition, all office buildings will close at 12pm. Classes will resume at normal start times on Tuesday, January 9, 2024.
