To be better prepared to help their athletes, the East St. John High School Athletic Staff trained in early August with SJSO personnel to become American Heart Association certified in cardiopulmonary resuscitation with use of an automated external defibrillator.
The AHA Heartsaver® CPR/AED certification is a classroom, video-based, Sheriff’s Office instructor-led course that teaches adult and child CPR, AED use, and how to relieve choking and infant CPR and choking. This training teaches participants how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED), a portable electronic device that can restart the heart, and how to perform CPR, which pumps blood to vital organs.
The training was conducted through an agreement between Sheriff Mike Tregre and St. John Public Schools Superintendent Lynett Hookfin.
