Sheriff Mike Tregre was pleased to welcome more than 20 St. John residents to the start of the St. John Sheriff’s Office’s fourth Citizens Academy April 21, 2021 at the new Lloyd B. Johnson Law Enforcement Training Center in LaPlace.
During the first session, Sheriff Tregre introduced commanders of the various divisions. Participants learned about community programs offered by the department and the operations of the 911 Communications Center.
Dr. Stacy Greene of New Orleans, an infectious disease specialist, also spoke about COVID-19 guidelines and COVID-19 vaccines.
Community involvement plays a crucial role in fighting crime and developing relationships between citizens and law enforcement. Citizens Academy offers a great opportunity to help build a positive relationship with the community, Sheriff Tregre said. This free program is open to the public.
Over the next nine Wednesdays, participants with have an insiders’ view of the operations of the sheriff’s office in a relaxed and interactive setting. This is not a program in which participants become police officers at the close of the program. Citizens Academy offers people the opportunity to learn firsthand about the tasks and responsibilities of the various divisions of the SJSO.
