Sheriff Mike Tregre and several fellow officers had the pleasure of delivering Thanksgiving lunches to members of the St. John Sheriff’s Office’s Protect Our Precious Seniors, POPS, program on November 24, 2020. Due to COVID-19, unfortunately, we were unable to present our traditional Thanksgiving senior citizens luncheon, which serves about 400 elderly in the parish. Instead of cancelling the entire event, Sheriff Tregre decided to offer a Thanksgiving meal delivery for our homebound seniors.
Our officers delivered baked chicken lunches to POPS members. The POPS members were very appreciative of the lunch of baked chicken, green beans, rice dressing, bread and bread pudding.
Sheriff Tregre sends a big thank you to Marathon Petroleum for its generous contribution to the lunch delivery. We also thank Monsignor Dennis Bergeron Knights of Columbus Council for the use of their hall for the event.
Through POPS, our officers normally make weekly house visits and assess POPS members’ overall condition as well as his or her living conditions. Since COVID-19, however, officers have been calling seniors to check-in on them. Next year, Sheriff Tregre and his officers look forward to bringing back our traditional luncheon for all parish seniors to enjoy.
