Sheriff Mike Tregre and other elected officials, clergy, and community leaders joined citizens for St. John Parish’s first Juneteenth Walk, “A Walk for Justice and Freedom,” June 19, 2020.
The march, from Home Depot to the Percy Hebert Building, was conducted in an organized and peaceful manner. The SJSO assisted to ensure public safety was at the forefront of this event.
“We’re here to show our support of this event for justice and freedom,” Sheriff Tregre said.
Sheriff Tregre also reminded citizens that the SJSO will continue to perform its duties with compassion, empathy, professionalism, and dedication to protecting the rights of everyone.
Sheriff Tregre encouraged participants to learn more about the operations of SJSO by attending the annual Citizens Academy, and he urged them to assists officers with the SJSO’s Distinguished Gentlemen’s Club for boys in middle through high school.
The SJSO is grateful to the organizers and participants for making the first Juneteenth Walk in St. John Parish a successful event.
