Sheriff Mike Tregre has announced June 4, 2020 that Madison Duhe has been named the 2019-20 winner of the academic scholarship presented by the Louisiana Sheriffs’ Association Scholarship Program.
Madison, a 2020 graduate of East St. John High in Reserve, will attend Southeastern Louisiana University to study kinesiology and aspires to be an athletic trainer with a professional sports team. She is the daughter of Chad and Jody Duhe of Reserve. Madison will receive $500 for educational expenses.
Madison’s application was among several received from graduating seniors attending all St. John Parish high schools. Qualities such as academic achievement, leadership, character, and community involvement are considered. Applications were reviewed by an impartial board, and the board then submitted its recommendations to Sheriff Tregre.
The Louisiana Sheriffs’ Educational Scholarship Program awards $500 to graduating high school students in parishes where the sheriffs are members of the Louisiana Sheriffs’ Honorary Membership Program. Funding for the scholarship is made possible through the support of St. John the Baptist Parish’s honorary members. An applicant must be a permanent resident of Louisiana, use the scholarship for higher education within the state, and be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student.
