Two more suspects were arrested recently in connection to the shooting death of 22-year-old Shane Chopin on Sunday, October 8, 2017. They are Kyron Joseph, 21, of LaPlace, booked Friday, October 27; and Jermaine Michael Tuircuit Jr., 21, of LaPlace, arrested Friday, November 3. Others arrested in early October in this homicide investigation were Clarensio Lintrell Bolden, 26, of Garyville, Deschad Matthews, 21, of LaPlace, and Ronte Murray, 19, of LaPlace.

Based on investigation, detectives obtained judicial warrants and arrested Joseph and Tuircuit. Both were booked with criminal conspiracy to distribute schedule 1 and principal to second degree murder. Joseph is being held in custody in lieu of a $70,000 bond. Tuircuit is being held in custody in lieu of a $70,000 bond.

Bolden was arrested for second degree murder. He is being held in custody with no bond. Matthews was arrested for principal to second degree murder. He is being held in custody in lieu of an $80,000 bond and was transferred October 12 to the St. Charles Parish Nelson Coleman Correctional Center. Murray was charged with principal to second degree murder. He was released October 20, 2017.

At about 11:35 p.m. on Sunday, October 8, 2017 deputies responded to a shooting in the 800 block of West Airline Highway in LaPlace. Upon arrival, deputies located Chopin behind a garbage dumpster, on the ground with several gunshot wounds to his body. Emergency medical services attempted to provide aid, but the subject passed away at the scene.

 

Through investigation, detectives developed Bolden, Matthews, Murray, Joseph, and Tuircuit as suspects. Three St. John Parish men have been arrested following the shooting death of 22-year-old Shane Chopin on Sunday, October 8, 2017 in LaPlace. Arrested
were Clarensio Lintrell Bolden, 26, of Garyville, Deschad Matthews, 21, of LaPlace, and Ronte Murray, 19, of LaPlace.

Bolden was arrested for second degree murder (felony) on Tuesday, October 10, 2017. Bolden, who has been arrested more than 10 times in St. John Parish since 2008, is being held in custody in lieu of a $125,000 bond.

Based on investigation, detectives obtained a judicial warrant for Murray’s arrest, and he was booked October 10, 2017 for principal to second degree murder. He is being held in custody in lieu of an $80,000 bond. In July 2016, Murray was arrested for attempted second degree murder for his involvement in a shooting at a graduation party in LaPlace.

Matthews was arrested Monday, October 9, 2017 and charged with principal to second degree murder. He is being held in custody in lieu of an $80,000 bond.

Sheriff Mike Tregre said more arrests are pending in the investigation, which has proceeded through some misinformation provided by residents.

“Apparently, some people want to lie and provide an alibi for these individuals,” Tregre said. “They will go to jail. They are trying to give us alibis and say they were not there at the time of the homicide.”
