St. John Sheriff’s Office detectives are investigating an incident in which a male subject invaded a LaPlace home and was shot by the homeowner. On September 12, 2017, about 8 p.m., deputies responded to a residence in the 3000 block of Cambridge Drive in LaPlace. Upon arrival, deputies made contact with a male subject who had just shot an intruder, later identified as Kalvin Ferrygood, 27, of Garyville, inside his home. The homeowner opened the back door after hearing voices in the backyard, and Ferrygood made entry into the house, at which time he was shot. Deputies and firefighters administered aid. Shortly after, emergency medical services arrived on scene and transported Ferrygood to a New Orleans hospital where he died.
The homeowner was not arrested based on statements of the homeowner, a witness, and physical and video evidence.
