deputies responded to the St James Parish Hospital emergency room when hospital personnel alerted authorities that a stabbing victim walked in for medical care. The 24-year-old victim stated that she was stabbed in Edgard and went to the emergency room for treatment. She told deputies that she was at Bozy’s Bar on East 6th Street and was involved in physical altercation when she was stabbed. She reported that Kya Smothers, 38, of LaPlace stabbed her in the chest.
On Wednesday, March 11, 2015, Kya Smothers met with detectives at the Criminal Investigations Division. During an interview with detectives, Smothers admitted to detectives that she stabbed the victim with a small pocketknife during the physical altercation. Detectives arrested Smothers and booked her with aggravated second-degree battery. She bonded out of jail on a $9,500 bond.
