On Monday, January 13, 2014, St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives arrested Lionel Labranche, 23, of Houma Drive in LaPlace for the murder of Cardell Cosey of Reserve. Cosey was murdered on East 13th Street in Reserve on November 17. Physical evidence collected during the investigation led detectives to suspect Labranche as being responsible for the murder. On Monday, a grand jury handed down a true bill of indictment for Lionel Labranche for the murder of Cosey. Labranche was arrested at the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division Monday afternoon.

Four subjects arrested and booked on charges in connection to the murder of Cardell Cosey are as follows:

Lionel Labranche, 23, of Houma Drive in LaPlace was arrested on 1/13/14. He was booked with second-degree murder, obstruction of justice, illegal possession of a stolen firearm, and illegal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. His bond is $450,150. Labranche was arrested 30 times in St. John the Baptist Parish since October 2007.

Samuel Covington III, 20, of Taffy Street in Kenner was arrested 1/14/14. He was booked with principal to second-degree murder. His bond has not been set. Covington had no prior arrest in St. John the Baptist Parish.

Jerry Weber, 21, of Camelia Avenue in LaPlace was arrested 12/18/13. He was booked with principal to obstruction of justice. He was released on $250 cash on a $2500 bond. Weber was arrested 7 times in St. John the Baptist Parish since September 2010.

Demario Gray, 27, of East 14th Street in Reserve was arrested 12/24/13. He was booked with obstruction of justice-simple assault. His bond was $12,000. He bonded out of jail on a commercial bond. Gray was arrested 14 times in St. John the Baptist Parish since December 2003.

Terrell Noel, 25, of Reserve was arrested 11/27/13 on unrelated outstanding warrants and remains in custody. He will be booked with obstruction of justice and illegal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Noel was arrested 28 times in St. John the Baptist Parish since May 2006.

Kenyatta Miller, 26, of Jasper Lane in LaPlace was arrested on 1/15/2014 on an outstanding judicial court ordered arrest warrant for attempted obstruction of justice in connection with the murder of Cardell Cosey. Miller was arrested 24 times in St. John the Baptist Parish since November 2007.

Homicide Investigation – E 13th St Reserve
On Sunday, November 17, 2013, at 7:48 pm, St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to the 200 block of East 13th Street in Reserve for the report of a man shot in the chest. The victim, identified as Cardell Cosey, 31, of East 14th Street in Reserve, was transport to the hospital for treatment where he succumbed to his injuries.
